Bumping up this very old thread but I bought a Yamaha T-2 in October via that well-known auction site here in the UK. Even through my humble system I can tell it is a cut above all previous tuners I have heard. Admittedly I have never had anything re...

We kind of slowly were looking, and looking and looking and suddenly today we were blessed with news that Kitty’s parents let up to use their 7.6’ Yamaha C7. It is interment from 70s and Amy loves it as she learned as kid and then taught on this pian...

The last couple days I have experimented with Behringer
Virtualizer 3D FX2000 High-Performance 3D Multi-Engine Effects Processor. It is
pro machine, very non expensive that allows doing the same as Yamaha field processors
can do. I was hoping to u...

Here in Boston, we’re blessed with a number of very good classical FM radio stations. I had for a long time a Magnum Dynalab Etude tuner and quite regularly was listening “live” broadcasts and many other beauties of urban FM life. I had a few t...

For God's sake it's an old Tannoy red with standard vintage Tannoy crossover muddied by scan speak pseudo passive radiator in accidental enclosure driven by a run of a mill Yamaha amp. ...

[quote user="Gregm"]This would involve some researching... thus introduing (possibly unecessary) complexity: look for a Sony or Yamaha or Sansui "power j-fet" amp. These were produced s/where in the mid '70s and should be very cheap now. I have ...

Is It Live ... or Yamaha? Channeling Glenn Gould By EDWARD ROTHSTEINMarch 12, 2007
Was that relief I felt as the piano was playing? A feeling that some worry had been alleviated or a fear quieted? Why then was it also mixed with disappointment, as i...

I did not know that there are any modern V-FET designs. As I understand, the V-FET transistors were available in 1970-1980 and were not produced since there. From what I heard that the DIY people who try to do V-FET amps buy old Sony and Yamaha machi...

Last time we wrote you thought I should focus less on tweeters and more on midbass.I am not done yet, but I have found a very nice midbass solution. Somewhat unorthodox, maybe.I have come to love police sirens! Without having A/B compared it to a pai...

I have heard several Tannoy speakers in the past, but have never heard the quality of sound Romy has obtained with his brain child. I don't know whether it is the speakers alone or his setup which has allowed his system to enthrall so much more than ...

David, thanks for clearing the things up. The 150kHz as a wide mode only in poor tuners. In US the 150kHz would not cover even the deviation range. This is one of many reasons why many tuner sounds like crap. The conventional standard, if quality of ...

Hi. First time here. So this is where all the horn lovers go......My wife calls this my "man-cave"....I look at it as my "home stereo". This photo is a couple months old. Just add a freshly re-c...

Because the Yamaha units are just not available in Aus and I do not feel paying $250 shipping for something 20yo and probably in need of a recap I ended up going with the MX400. It is less expensive here, brand-new and while getting used to things I...

I have been listening for the last few weeks to a modern Vfet design by digital do main, the B1-a , 'inspired' I suppose by the earlier Yamaha amp, it too unlike any ss amp I have heard, it isn't at all harsh or strident it has tremendous resolution,...

Hi Romy,Given the Yamaha's age, I am not surprised it sounds terrible. Someone needs to go through old caps, lousy transistors and cracked solder joints. After service, it should be close to or better than new specs; it might not sound very good, b...

It is ridicules how pleasant the Yamaha B2 sound when it operates in class A and how much worse it sounds when it switches to class AB. I did not measure the power but with default 40mA it switches to class B very soon. With my current cooling te...

Maybe TU-1x is different altogether and I did not try yamaha but every other SS tuner (kenwood, pionneer , nakamichi )sounded like you described -cotton ball ,pork fat salt and pepper . Because of that I gave up on SS tuners. The best tuner I heard s...

These are not speakers but ear scratchers ,they may however fit Samuel's expectations. Actually from description of required performance almost every Hi-End speaker should fit the bill so I don't understand where is the problem ? If the speaker will ...

I think I remember an "exotic" Yamaha B-1 amp. Is it like that?In most cases, they all seem to have introduce a good line up and then started downgrading them; or so i remember.Anyway, I hope this works out, and it's probably better than all but the...

Hi all, I am new to this forum and am in UK. Having browsed this forum for a few days I have decided to join.I have a Yamaha CT7000 FM tuner and was wondering how much it is worth. The unit is immaculate, including the teak casework.RgdsMike...

Figuring out how to switch REL Precedent’s IM bandwidth to more suitable for Stereo operation I was wondering about something else. The 250kHz window though which the REL Precedent looks to the FM band is might be fine for DXing or having good select...

I'm currently using a pair of LCY-100K ribbon drivers with their built-in crossovers. While they are supposedly 2nd order electrically, the actual response I measure looks rather more like 3rd order rolloff below that point. No comments about their t...

I am curious how good would be MX400 compared to old Yamaha's; please provide us a feedback after you play a couiple of weeks with it even if you don't have a Yamaha to compare with. Thank you....

How about more current integrateds with old-school designs.Harmon Kardon 3490 is a SS integrated stereo amp. I'm guessing it's class AB, but it does not say. Yamaha has one that is similar.Onkyo 5AVL is 40W class D integrated. ...

Thanks Paul! No, no, it works with Yamaha B2 and my Dannoys. I continue researching this intriguing project. For the Staxes I do not need a preamp. 5V is a plenty enough for B2 which has 1Vmax sensitivity....

Congratulations on building and arriving at a place where you are happy. It is often difficult to know when to finish persuing something in life. I am sure you will enjoy litening to music more without listening out for areas you can improve on.Aside...

That was a very enjoyable reply there!I wonder how many concerts one has to attend in order to catch a good one.About the loud passages: it might not be the ego of the pianists. It is very hard to play loud passages of big chords eff...

Well, I think my Yamaha B-2 is not working well. It slightly cures my ego with MiniMe. I took today the B-2 and drive them with good conventional loudspeakers and it had the same sound –very very howly (and ugly!!!) sound under 200Hz… I wonder, do I ...
